Homework will be sent home Monday-Thursday. Homework must be done in pencil, unless otherwise noted. Homework will include 1-2 pages of reading/phonics and 1-2 pages of mathematics. The homework should take around 20-30 minutes to complete. If you have any questions about the homework, please don't hesitate to email me. I also recommend 20 minutes of reading to/with your child daily.
Book Bags
Every week your child will receive a book bag that will contain books that were reviewed in class. PLEASE do your best to keep this bag in a safe place and return it on Friday. Each bag will contain two types of books. The smaller pink ones are for review/practice. The colored larger books may challenge your child a little more. Several of the bags contain the same books, therefore, you may see some repetition. The levels for the reading books are scattered, so some will be an easy read and some will be challenging. They might also get repeats of the same book for practice. Repetition is good, since this is how students develop their fluency skills (how fast they can read).
There will also be a journal page sent home every Monday in their hw folder. Your child is to choose their favorite book and draw a picture/create a project of their favorite part. They are then to write a simple sentence to describe their picture. Please try not to help them with the sentence. On Friday, students will present their picture/project/sentence to the class. Tutoring
Tutoring will be provided twice a week from 3:20pm – 3:45pm. Tutoring is a positive experience where students are given one-on-one attention with the teacher. Every student will be tutored at some point during the year and you will be given prior notice as to which day your child should attend. Tutoring activities may include: singing, storytelling, mathematics, phonics, reading, and learning games.
